Myanmar Ratifies ASEAN Convention Counter-terrorism

JAKARTA, 5 March 2012 - The Government of the Union of Myanmar deposited their Instrument of Ratification to the ASEAN Convention on Counter-terrorism (ACCT) to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Dr Surin Pitsuwan on 18 January 2012. Myanmar is the seventh ASEAN Member State to ratify the Convention which was signed by the ASEAN Leaders in January 2007.

Other countries that have ratified the Convention include Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Brunei Darussalam. In accordance with the Article XXI of the Convention; upon ratification by the sixth country, Brunei Darussalam, the ACCT on 28 May 2011 entered into force.
