Vice Town Mayor Shot Dead In Central Philippines

MANILA, May 4 (Bernama) -- A vice mayor in central Philippines province of Capiz was shot dead Friday morning, Xinhua news agency reported.

An unidentified gunman shot Mambusao town vice mayor Abel Martinez while he stood talking to a retired policeman at 6:00 a.m. in front of his house in Poblacion village of the same municipality, Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said.

Martinez sustained five gunshot wounds on his face and body.

He was rushed to Mambusao hospital but died later.

The suspect fled after the incident and operations are currently ongoing to pursue the assailant.
