JAKARTA, May 8 (Bernama) -- Members of Indonesian parliament top the list of people who were arrested as suspects in corruption activities this year, an anti-corruption watchdog was quoted as saying Tuesday.
"There are six people [involved in corruption] from the House of Representatives and DPRD [Regional Representatives Council]," said Johan Budi, spokesman from the watchdog called Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK, Xinhua news agency reported.
Among the lawmakers who are being investigated by KPK this year are Wa Ode Nurhayati, a suspect involved in the regional infrastructure development budget 2011, Democratic Party lawmaker Angelina Sondakh who was involved in the construction of an athlete's inn for the SEA Games, and Central Java Representative Council Speaker Murdoko, accused of graft relating to the Kendal district budget 2003-2004.
Next on the list were individuals from private institutions, followed by government officials including mayors, governors and high-rank state employees.
Indonesia has struggled to fight rampant graft in the country with scores of officials sent to jail.
