Former Taliban Group Commander Assassinated At Home By Militants

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, July 29 (Bernama) -- Taliban commander Mullah Abdullah who joined government two months ago was killed at his home in northern Kunduz province, provincial governor Mohammad Omar said Thursday.

"Unknown armed men, possibly Taliban militants entered the house of Mullah Abdullah in Imam Sahib district on Tuesday night and shot him dead," Omar told China's Xinhua news agency.

Mullah Abdullah who used to serve as a group commander of Taliban fighters in Kunduz province switched side and joined government along with 20 of his men in early May.

Taliban militants have not made comment.

Kunduz has been the scene of Taliban-linked increasing militancy since beginning this year.
