KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- China's Pingguang Tian set a new world junior record en route to the gold in the men's 100kg category at the International Powerlifting Championships which entered its fifth day at the Titiwangsa Stadium here Thursday.
He succeeded in lifting 220kg in his very first attempt, which was 40kg more that the previous record set by Castillo Jose of Mexico at the Brazilian championships in 2005.
Moatsem Ahmed of Libya took the silver in the event with a lift of 215kg while Elshan Huseynov of Azerbaijan had to settle for the bronze when he only managed 205kg.
In the men's 90kg category, Egypt's Hany Abdelhady won the silver (235kg), Germany's Pavlos Mamalos the silver (225kg) and Iran's Ali Sadeghzadehsalma the bronze (222kg).
In the women's 75kg category, Lin Tzu Hui of Taiwan grabbed the gold (140kg), Egypt's Randa Mahmoud the silver (135kg) and Ukraine's Lyubov Semenyuk the bronze (107kg).
As for the women's 82.5kg, the winner was Egypt's Hassan Geehan (130kg), while Libya's Huda Ali took the bronze (117.5kg) and Spain's Maria Montserrat Alcoba Membrilla the bronze (97.5kg).
