Felda\'s success in improving the socio-economic status of bumiputeras has become strength of the Barisan Nasional (BN) and that is why the land development agency was targeted by \"Suara Keadilan\", the weekly organ of Parti Keadilan Rakyat. Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir says Suara Keadilan\'s recent front-page report entitled \"Felda Bangkrap\" was a concocted report which was politically-driven and was utterly baseless and irresponsible. Datuk Mukhriz added that Felda is among the more successful institutions with large cash reserves, and has been able to invest in huge projects and provide Felda settlers with ever-increasing benefits.

The national engineering education has surpassed an internationally recognised benchmarking tool as the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) was accorded a signatory status in the Washington Accord. Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor says with the achievement, local engineering graduates recognised by the BEM could practice globally. Other signatories of the Washington Accord are professional engineering bodies from Australia, Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, the United States and the United Kingdom. He said Malaysia was on track to emerge as an engineering education hub in the region.

Foreign nationals under the protection of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) are still subject to the country\'s laws. In stating this Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said Malaysia had not signed the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and, as such, the foreign nationals were subject to detention if they committed any offence under the Immigration Act. However, on humanitarian grounds, these people are handed over to the UNHCR (on request) if they can prove that they are under the protection of the organisation and had obtained verification from it.
